Emergency Care

While true emergencies are rare, we’re here if you’re in severe pain or have an urgent appliance issue you can’t manage on your own. Call our office so we can help as soon as possible.

Quick Fixes You Can Do at Home

  • Loose parts: If something detaches, place it in a bag and bring it to your next visit.
  • Poking wire or bracket: Apply orthodontic wax to ease discomfort.
  • Wire slid to one side: Use tweezers to shift it back gently into place.

Even if you manage the discomfort at home, please still call us—we need to make permanent repairs to avoid delays in your treatment.

Common Issues & What to Do

Soreness

Expect tenderness for 3–5 days after getting braces. Stick to soft foods and rinse with warm salt water. Tylenol is fine, but avoid ibuprofen or aspirin as they may slow tooth movement. Wax helps if cheeks, lips, or tongue are irritated.

Loose appliances or brackets:

Use wax for comfort. If a bracket falls off, bring it in a bag on your next visit.

Loose wires:

Try repositioning with tweezers or floss. If that doesn’t work, clip the wire with clean nail clippers and cover sharp ends with wax.

Poking wire:

Use a pencil eraser to push it down or apply wax.
